Who said anything about fucking up? I changed my major several times. Grades were never an issue. Figuring out what I wanted to do for the next 20 years was.
Sounds like you fucked up.
Well everyone makes mistakes along the way and certainly if I had been more prepared when I graduated high school at the age of 16 than I could have graduated a lot sooner. I just simply wasn't aware of how big the world was and I had had a pretty sheltered conservative/religious lifestyle, so college really opened up the possibilities that existed for an individual such as myself.

Could I have done things better, more effectively, etc? Yeah. I think the circumstances of my upbringing though contributed to the delay in deciding what I want to do. When you think the world is going to end in 20-30 years you have a different perspective than when you realize a lot of that is just plain bullshit.

Totally agree. Which is why I choose to get my bachelors in nursing; a field which literally has endless possibilities and an amazing amount of flexibility. I'm guaranteed to find a job pretty much anywhere in the country especially with the shortage increasing as baby boomers hit their 60s/70s/80s/etc

Finally getting my bachelors in a month. Only took me 170 credits lol.
in what?
BSN

I thought about going right into the ICU because I could but I haven't really decided what I want to be doing 10 years down the road. I really want to get into politics to be perfectly honest so I'm thinking of working for 4-5 years pretty hard and then going back and getting a law degree. UVA has a pretty good program over here at Darden. Just need to find out if there's any other prereqs I may need to take as far as classes, but I think I'll be fine as I've literally taken ALL the prereqs for any business or medical school.
Are you still trying to get into a CRNA school? Or are you about to just start working in the ICU?

See that is the thing. One needs ICU experience to go to CRNA school which is what I thought I might do.

Turns out though I actually enjoy talking to people and getting to know their story. That doesn't mix well with a career involving sedating people.

You think that some teaching hospitals would hire an ADN into the ICU? Also, it's not that bad to work weekend nights while getting your BSN during the week, how much was your differential?

And maybe you could squeeze in a convo or two with a patient during the pre op assessment as a CRNA xD? def not the same tho cus you are in the OR for most of your day.

I got to shadow a dude about 3 weeks ago at a surgery center, he got his lunch paid for him and he's out the door at 3:30 everyday. People seemed to give him a lot more respect and constantly mistook him as a doctor. he was self employed though, he didn't work under an anesthesiologist with other CRNAs and I guess the malpractice insurance is a big blow in $ among many other things.

My mom got a degree in art history (she didn't have much guidance on what major to choose while in high school, which was back near the time they invented fire) and worked as a computer instructor for 10 years and then doing medical transcription before becoming a stay at home mom. My neighbor got a degree in civil engineering, did that for 10 years, and became bored with that and now works at the YMCA teaching yoga part time. My other neighbor got a degree in construction management and works as a financial adviser for Wells Fargo. My point is, you will probably be doing something you never envisioned yourself doing in 15 years.

this is so true. i suggest not getting a bullshit degree to begin with. it seems like math engineering or computer science is most likely bound to find you an occupation in that area of study

tbh i love school. as rough as senior level coursework is, i love learning new shit, the environment, seeing friends every day etc.. it definitely beats the 9-5 work grind that's probably coming after you graduate.

I don't understand that. Do you not go to school so you can work in a field you enjoy? I'm excited for that 9-5 (although it'll probably be a 7:30-6 in my case).

working full-time is like a grind like masood said, if you're lucky you'll find a job you enjoy but no matter how much you like it there are going to be some days where you wish you didn't have to get up early or wanted to do something else. like think about the thing you enjoy most in the world: sex, video games, whatever it is. you wouldn't want to do that 9-10 hours a day 40-50 hours a week, eventually you'd want to do something else. inb4 homofag

there's also things like office politics and shitty commutes that kinda ruins the whole experience that are unavoidable unfortunately. also no summer vacations that sucks too

good shit ^

I just landed two internship offers: the Field Museum and the Argonne lab. i go to DePaul and it's not known for their science programs, but it sure has amazing connections if you talk around. They both start at summer, and that means i can only pick one. I'm leaning towards the Field Museum since they keep CIRRUS DePaul interns permanently. As for Argonne, it's more hardcore research and independent work. Don't really like the idea of working alone and it's more physics than anything. I'm more bio oriented. I'm gonna grind out the internship this summer and request a position where i can work with fossils of carnivorous dinosaurs that can be birds.

Free tickets to all the museum in chicago and festivals!

Exactly. The more you learn the more things you wanna know and try out. It's the best. It's a bit shaming it took me 8 years to get a bachelors, but I learned so much from the experience. Rdy 2 change the w0rld

not at all

the experience you gained in your actual job duties while you worked and went to school, gained experience dealing with people coworkers or clients

people need to take their time when they are young to enjoy the world without having a totally loaded schedule

Ya it's some cool stuff. I was there last summer and got a tour behind the scenes on what goes on with their collection.

Here's a pic I took of 50 million old femur from a mammal I don't remember: http://imgur.com/7MAPurk

Also the tickets are for me I'm guessing.
